Tsunami in Indonesia: Swiss Solidarity calls for Donations

The earthquake and tsunami that hit Indonesia on Friday left hundreds dead and thousands wounded devastating an entire region. Swiss Solidary is calling for donations to finance humanitarian aid from NGOs on the ground.

The Indonesian government today appealed for international aid after the massive earthquake followed by a tsunami that hit the island of Sulewesi on Friday, killing over 1,200 people and wounding thousands of people. More than 1.5 million people are affected and the damage is considerable. Relief operations are underway while the overall needs will only be known when rescuers have reached the most remote areas.

Five NGO partners of Swiss Solidarity (ADRA, Caritas, EPER, Solidar, Swiss Red Cross) have already mobilised to help victims on the ground. People are urgently in need of food, water, medicine, medical equipment and shelter.

The donations collected by Swiss Solidarity will initially be used to meet the most urgent needs. Later, according to the needs, the partners of the Swiss Solidarity will help the people to recover after the catastrophe, for example through the rehabilitation and reconstruction of their houses.

Donations can be made on www.bonheur.ch or on CP 10-15000-6, “Tsunami Indonesia”.
